A systematic map of human-carnivore coexistence

چکیده
Carnivore populations globally have largely declined, and coexistence, where humans carnivores share landscapes, plays a crucial role in carnivore conservation. However, the term “coexistence” is often used scientific popular literature without being clearly defined. Herein, we provide global perspective on what coexistence how it studied. We conducted systematic map of 366 articles published between 1987 2020 to characterize human-carnivore according definitions, temporal trends, geographic taxonomic focus, four thematic aspects coexistence: ecology, human endeavors, social conflict conflict. chi-squared tests generalized linear models describe thematic, focus literature. The increased exponentially past 30 years, but few defined those that did inconsistent definitions. Thematically, research showed less emphasis conflict, even though major driver regarding carnivores. also focused primarily larger carnivores, rather than endangered was led by European North American authors. offer simplified, formal definition incorporates encountered literature: Co-occurrence sustainable endeavors with minimal human-human encourage researchers dimensions such as attitudes towards or underlying causes broaden cultural breadth their projects.

Toward Human-Carnivore Coexistence: Understanding Tolerance for Tigers in Bangladesh
Fostering local community tolerance for endangered carnivores, such as tigers (Panthera tigris), is a core component of many conservation strategies. Identification of antecedents of tolerance will facilitate the development of effective tolerance-building conservation action and secure local community support for, and involvement in, conservation initiatives. We use a stated preference approac...
متن کاملA review of financial instruments to pay for predator conservation and encourage human-carnivore coexistence.
One of the greatest challenges in biodiversity conservation today is how to facilitate protection of species that are highly valued at a global scale but have little or even negative value at a local scale. Imperiled species such as large predators can impose significant economic costs at a local level, often in poverty-stricken rural areas where households are least able to tolerate such costs...
متن کاملThe Effect of Concept Map on Education: A Systematic Review
Introduction: Along with science and technology advancement, philosophy, content and educational methods are transforming. Modern approaches such as constructivism have replaced traditional approaches and the assumption of knowledge transfer from teachers to learners. One of these approaches is concept map. The purpose of this paper was to examine the application of concept maps in education an...
متن کاملHuman-Carnivore Conflict and Perspectives on Carnivore Management Worldwide
Carnivore conservation depends on the sociopolitical landscape as much as the biological landscape. Changing political attitudes and views of nature have shifted the goals of carnivore management from those based on fear and narrow economic interests to those based on a better understanding of ecosystem function and adaptive management. In parallel, aesthetic and scientific arguments against le...
متن کاملShift in microhabitat use as a mechanism allowing the coexistence of victim and killer carnivore predators
It has been suggested that spatial heterogeneity is key to the coexistence at local spatial scales of subordinate and dominant predator species by allowing the former to shift to more protective habitats when the risk of intraguild predation exists. Here, we show how the smaller carnivore Egyptian mongoose (Herpestes ichneumon) may coexist on a local scale with its intraguild predator, the Iber...
